Each of these properties was rated by an AAA inspector, who conducted an unannounced evaluation and analyzed such areas as service, cleanliness and ambiance, amenities and quality. More than 59,000 AAA approved North American and Caribbean properties were evaluated and only 3.6 percent received the Four Diamond honor. Those properties that receive the Four Diamond Award are considered “upscale in all areas … with a high degree of hospitality, service, and attention to detail.”

Only 3.5% of over 58,000 AAA-rated lodgings and restaurants are awarded the prestigious AAA Four Diamond Award making them truly among the hospitality elite in North America.

Four Diamond properties are upscale in all areas. Accommodations are progressively more refined and stylish. The physical attributes reflect an obvious enhanced level of quality throughout. The fundamental hallmarks at this level include an extensive array of amenities combined with a high degree of hospitality, service and attention to detail.

Establishments are rated when tourism editors visit lodgings and conduct unannounced evaluations – scrutinizing such areas as cleanliness, ambiance, amenities and service.  Once an establishment has earned their Award, besides visiting annually, editors will make a reservation  and spend a night every few years to ensure standards remain high and keep us on our toes.
